Tutor a Middle School Student

Work one-on-one with a middle school student (12-15 years old) who is a participant in The Fund's Career Awareness Program. Help them with academic skill-building in subjects like math, language arts and social studies. Each tutor and student pair keep a journal and select a book to read together. Fresh Air staff provide support to all tutors and are a resource to help volunteers plan for their tutoring sessions. Volunteers make a commitment to attend sessions held once a week on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at The Fund's midtown office. The fall semester of tutoring runs from September through December and the spring semester runs from the end of January through May – tutors commit on a semester-by-semester basis.

Mentors work on an individual and small group basis. Fresh Air staff provide support to all mentors and are a resource to help volunteers plan for each session. Volunteers make a weekly commitment to attend meetings on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at The Fresh Air Fund’s midtown office. The fall session of mentoring runs from October through December and the spring session runs from March through May.

Host a Job Shadowing at your Office

Invite a group of students (along with a Fresh Air Fund chaperone) to visit you and your colleagues at your office to learn about your career field. Job shadowings are typically 1.5 hours and take place after school (5:00 pm - 6:30 pm) or anytime during the day on school vacations. The Fund's staff will help you plan all the details.
